Zinfully Jewish
This being Passover and me not being Jewish, I thought I'd invite an expert to share a traditional dish to highlight the holiday. Who better than my alabaster "faux sister"?
Israeli Meat Pie
4 whole plain matzos
1 pound ground beef
1 large onion, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
sweet and sour sauce
2 eggs beaten
-In deep dish, soak
matzos in warm water for two to three minutes. They should be soft but
not breaking. -Place on paper towels to drain.
-In large skillet, brown
ground beef, draining off any fat. Add onion, salt and pepper.
-Cover
and cook over medium neat for four to five minutes. Do not let onions
brown. Set aside.
-Grease 8x8 inch baking
dish and place two drained matzos to cover the bottom. Spread meat
mixture and onions.
-Beat eggs with fork until frothy and pour over
meat. -Top with sweet and sour sauce.
-Arrange remaining matzos
on top to form crust. Brush with oil if desired, I've never done it
personally but if you want it a little crisper it does the trick.
-Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes before serving.
